Monkey Bossiness

One memorable animal for many visitors to India is the common monkey. You will find them in many tourist spots. They are pretty crafty, audacious and nimble. You don’t have to feed them. They manage well on their own. While they don’t normally harm humans, they do snatch food, especially from children, with surprising boldness.

Curiously they don’t take food from the shopkeepers! The vendor has nice guavas piled up in the cart and the monkeys don’t touch. You pick up three or four and they descend like superman and make off with it. It is too funny.

Tip for tourists: they are usually wary of long sticks and stay away from people who carry them. Perhaps that is what shopkeepers use to train them!

The one in the photo is the boss monkey and he has the right to eat first. There five or six hovering around him but they dare not touch the food till he has finished.
